As per TOI report, a director of IIT stated the one day fast by IIT faculty was based on ego problem not based on the actual data. he said that IIT faculty want the moon.However, IIT faculty says that fight is not for pay scales but for flexibility and autonomy. Insiders have different opinion about the whole logjam. IIT faculty's main concern is over two issues: 1. They want pay parity with Scientists of ISRO and DRDO, 2. They don't want restrictions put by MHRD over promotion of Senior Professors on quota basis.
Faculty of IITs on a day's hunger strike but they will continue to teach so that student's interests are not jeopardized.
Things are moving fast in the circle. An issue was raised in the beginning in this blog about parity of pay scales of teachers irrespective of the association with institutes. Why not common scale to all teachers/educators in India and an all India rank based categorization of institutes and based on this ranking a separate pay tag in addition to common package. This is the only solution. This can be achieved only by scraping UGC and AICTE and constituting one regulator for higher education in India
